Hey Everyone,
I hope your research has been progressing well. As committee draws closer I wanted to elaborate on how our committee will run, specifically in terms of resolutions/solutions. Because we have two topics, both relatively technical and challenging in nature I wanted to clarify a few things before we arrived at committee. The key to the first topic is understanding what current energy efficiency policies are in your country and worldwide; and understanding new and developing technologies in the energy efficiency space, some of which were mentioned in the background guide.
It is up to you, as a country, to decide which current policies, what new policies, and what technologies should be implemented in the next 10 years to provide the most effective energy efficiency policy. Due to the depth at which some of the resolutions will engage in, we are hoping to see some resolution work by the end of the first session. This means that it is critical that you understand your countries policies, along with potential blocs and what their policies may be.
For the second topic, we are expecting to start it by the second session on Saturday. The key to this topic is being able to generalize the core concepts of a smart city and apply it to different environments. Furthermore understanding the nuances of data privacy and its necessity in the new generation of smart cities is critical. One thing in particular that is a primarily social issue is the digital divide, and it is something that needs to be addressed. While this is a difficult problem to solve it is a large part of our future and something you, as delegates, should ponder. Furthermore, I strongly suggest reading the private technology section of the background guide and reading case studies to see what works and how they work.
I understand that this is a lot of information to process, but I'm extremely glad we are debating these topics and if you have any questions at all feel free to email us at unidoxlvii@bmun.org
Best,
Vikas
