What are smart cities actually like?

Hi everyone! Hope you're all doing fabulously. We're all SOOOO excited to see you in committee. In the meantime, you can do some extra research and read our lovely blogs <3 Today, I wanted to talk about the realistic side of smart cities and how they can actually be implemented in our societies. Refer to this article for more info:  https://tech.co/news/smart-cities-connected-citizen-data-2019-01 Often, when people hear the term "smart cities", they think of extremely advanced (and sometimes inexistent) technologies, such as flying cars or futuristic computing systems. However, smart cities don't necessarily have to be something out of a sci-fi novel; they're just regular cities that develop more advanced communication systems. Smart cities collect information about their residents and the environment in order to save energy, time, and money. This can be done through energy-efficient lights and buildings, better traffic lights, easier payment methods,

The Importance of Energy Efficient Buildings

Hi everyone! Hope you've been making some progress on those position papers! (the deadline is February 3rd if you want a research award!!) Here's an  article to help stimulate some thinking around one of our topics --  Efficient Energy Capture, Storage, and Transportation . Buildings account for a massive amount of energy use in the United States and many other countries. When it comes to the future of our energy crisis, it is not only about where our energy comes from, but also how efficiently we are using it. There are also many other benefits that come with increased energy efficiency as well, such as lower long-term costs. Think about what policies certain states can enact to increase building efficiency and what specific technologies they can implement to carry out such a task. I'm excited to hear all your thoughts! Blog Expectations

Hello Delegates, In this post I'm going to outline what can be expected from this blog in the coming weeks. Every week I will post an important statement on conference ranging from position paper format to committee advice. Furthermore, a member of the UNIDO Dais will post a relevant article that I hope you all read, as it should provide useful information for determining your solutions and stances. On that note feel free to comment on any posts on what you find interesting, or an article/news that other delegates should check out! I look forward to meeting you all very soon! Vikas

Introduction to Vice Chair Tal

Hi friends! My name's Tal Stoler, and I'm one of the vice chairs for UNIDO this year. I'm a third year at Cal, and I'm studying economics. In addition to being in BMUN, I spend my time volunteering for Suticase Clinic, working at Jewish Museum, and occasionally working at the farmers' market because I <3 veggies. I am originally from Israel, but I spent most of my upbringing in Southern California. I love food. Like a lot. I know I'm small (5'2''), but I really do eat a lot, and it's my favorite hobby. My love of food has led me to be interested in things like food systems, public health, and sustainable agriculture.  I'm super excited for committee this year and to meet all of you! Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
